Tierra Luz

“EARTH LIGHT”. 2021. CINDERBLOCK, WOOD, CALICHE, LED LIGHTS, FROSTED PLEXIGLASS, AND MEXICAN FEATHERGRASS

This artwork seeks to display the nature of the ground you're always standing on.

As if the earth was extruded up and the soil started to fall away, a warm glowing light source is revealed from below to either side of the viewer. The holy/ethereal/sublime is revealed through the most mundane of materials, a surround of cinder block, and grass fill the negative space of the blocks to further this idea of the extruded ground, to hide the light from the viewer until they're inside the structure, and to catch the light.
